moved out of the old place and into
the new. This would take us into
October.
Next up was the dismantling of the
studios in the old location and moving
them into their new home. Again, this
was done only to the point of minimal
functionality, in the interests of time.
It is worth noting here that our new
offices are on the second floor of
the building. Things that were easily
moved out of the old place were not
quite so easily moved into the new
place. Even more frustrating, no
matter how much we moved out of
there, it always seemed as though we
were still not quite finished… and it’s
been that way for weeks.
It’s amazing what you can bring
yourself to throw away or give away if
it means one less thing that you have
to move. I began wantonly divesting myself of things and/or discarding them; eventually,
I drew the line at the cat. I was able to move her rather painlessly, and now she seems to
believe that her main function is to topple things and root around in boxes.
October has come and gone, and aside from the many distractions of keeping WSLK and
this magazine on track, I have worked diligently to complete the move. At this point, I’ll
consider it a victory if I complete it in my lifetime.
“There is maybe just another truckload of stuff to move, and then general cleaning,” I keep
telling myself… right after each successive truckload.
In the meantime, I just keep on learning new things about the various ways in which a
studio to transmitter link can fail. I fear that I have yet to catalogue them all.
The most dangerous words that anyone can say to me now are, “Hey, I know you’re busy,
but…” It would seem that there are a lot of people who like to live dangerously.
I sit here in my new office, surrounded by haphazardly packed boxes of who-knows-what.
My always helpful business partner, my father, wants to know when I plan to get this
place organized.
My not-quite-empty former office continues to loom above my head like the Sword of
Damocles… I have a remote broadcast today... and we are about to go to press with this
issue of Discover… Someone helpfully reminds me about vehicle inspections…The cat is
hungry.
I love my new office. If I ever decide to move again, someone please slap me.
