The Smith Mountain Lake Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society recently gathered
at the home/shop of Larry Sakayama for a demonstration into the fine art of canoe, kayak and
guitar design and construction. The group then traveled to the shop of Alan Frederick for further
demonstrations in cutting, steaming and fitting side planking on a wooden boat. Chapter member
Dave Weaver also demonstrated methods used to stain and varnish a wooden boat. Shown above
are the chapter members who attended the workshop sessions with guest speaker Larry Sakayama.
