Here is last issue’s brain puzzle:

After the long Christmas Eve delivery run of

presents, Santa likes to enjoy a big breakfast.
Part of that breakfast is eggs boiled for exactly 15

minutes. Santa gets very cross if they are not boiled
for exactly 15 minutes. Hermie the Elf has just

been assigned to prepare Santa’s breakfast for the

first time. He only has a 7-minute hourglass and
an 11-minute hourglass with which to time the

eggs… how can Hermie boil the eggs in exactly 15

minutes?

ANSWER: Our winner is Skip Larrington!

Here is his solution: Turn over both hour glasses

to start.

When the 7 minute timer runs out, turn the 7
minute timer over to restart it. (7 total minutes
elapsed.)

When the 11 minute timer runs out (that was 4
more minutes), flip the 7 minute timer again. (11
total minutes elapsed.)

When the 7 minute timer runs out, that will be a Skip and Vicki Larrington
total of 15 minutes.
