one to the rescue if someone fell
or got hurt. She loves animals and
would like to be a veterinarian or
veterinarian technician when she is
older. She also loves soccer, cooking
and sewing. She has helped Mom
make four quilts and is currently
making a purse. She also sings in
the Praise Band every Sunday at the
8:30 service at her church.
Rylee’s $38 a month is used to
teach Sandra, the child she sponsors,
all aspects of healthy development
such as eating nutritious meals,
learning to brush her teeth properly,
getting help with her homework,
playing soccer, learning a vocational
skill and Bible study and devotion.
Educational conferences are also
provided for Sandra’s parents.
The pastor, staff and volunteers
of Sandra’s church provide a safe
haven for her and the other children
attending the center. Her church,
described as a cornerstone in the
community understands the needs
these children face on a daily basis.
Founded in 1952 by Rev
Everett Swanson,
Compassion
International’s
goal is to stop the
cycle of poverty that perpetuates
in families from one generation to
the next. They do this by focusing
on individual children, like Sandra.
Rev Swanson was an evangelist
preacher for American troops
fighting in South Korea where he
saw many war orphans destitute
and living on the streets and vowed
to do something to help. When
he came home, he established a
way for people to contribute small
amounts of money each month
to care for an individual orphan’s
needs. He started with 34 South
Korean children and the ministry he
founded has grown today to serving
more than 2 million children in 26
developing countries. He would be
very proud of Rylee.
Rylee is the youngest of David
and Lori Suon’s three children.
Their son in Ohio has a boy, 8 years
old and a girl 5 and their daughter
in Roanoke is expecting.
Rylee’s next big goal is getting
a car by the time she’s old enough
to drive. She already has a saving
account for one. No one doubts
she’ll fulfill that dream.
